Director Huang Zhaojin of the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA Meets with Lesotho Ambassador to China H.E. Mapaballo Lydia Mile to Discuss 60th Independence Anniversary Celebrations and Business Cooperation

Beijing, July 9, 2026 – Mr. Huang Zhaojin, Director of the Digital Economy Working Committee of the China Overseas Development Association (hereinafter referred to as the "Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA"), paid a courtesy call upon H.E. Ms. Mapaballo Lydia Mile, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Lesotho to China, at the Embassy of Lesotho in Beijing. The two sides held a working meeting centered on preparations for Lesotho's 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations, the establishment of a business cooperation center, and the deepening of China-Lesotho economic and trade collaboration.

Focus on the 60th Independence Anniversary – Joint Discussion on Celebration Arrangements

At the outset of the meeting, Director Huang Zhaojin extended warm congratulations on Lesotho's upcoming 60th Independence Anniversary. He noted that 2026 marks a significant milestone for Lesotho and a pivotal year for China-Lesotho relations. He recalled that in January of this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Lesotho and specifically conveyed congratulations on the anniversary, emphasizing China's readiness to work with Lesotho to further advance the strategic partnership between the two countries. Director Huang stated that the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA is keen to take this opportunity to actively participate in and support the Independence Day anniversary celebrations and related business forums hosted by the Lesotho Embassy, jointly reviewing the 60-year history of friendly exchanges between the two nations and charting a blueprint for future cooperation.

Ambassador Mile expressed her gratitude for Director Huang's visit and his congratulatory remarks, and provided an overview of the preparatory work for the series of 60th Independence Anniversary events. Ambassador Mile stated that Lesotho attaches great importance to this historic moment and plans to hold a range of activities at the Embassy and relevant venues in Beijing, including economic and trade promotion events and cultural exhibitions. She expressed the hope that the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA and Chinese enterprises would actively participate in and celebrate this important occasion together.

Promoting the Establishment of a Business Cooperation Center – Building a New Platform for Economic and Trade Cooperation

The meeting placed particular emphasis on in-depth discussions regarding the establishment of a China-Lesotho economic and trade cooperation platform within a business center. Director Huang Zhaojin introduced the progress made by the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA in planning to set up a business cooperation center in the Nansha District of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. This center is designed to provide one-stop support services for Chinese enterprises engaged in Africa-related cooperation, covering equipment production, processing and manufacturing, and trade matchmaking. He noted that Lesotho possesses unique geographical advantages and abundant resource endowments, with significant cooperation potential particularly in agriculture, textiles, and water resource development. The business cooperation center could serve as a vital channel for Lesotho's specialty products to enter the Chinese market, providing a convenient and efficient matchmaking platform for enterprises of both countries.

Ambassador Mile responded positively to this proposal. She noted that Guangdong Province serves as an important gateway for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, and the establishment of a business cooperation center there would greatly facilitate Lesotho enterprises' access to China's high-quality resources and vast market. The Lesotho side would actively support the construction of this center and promote engagement between relevant Lesotho government departments and enterprises with their Chinese counterparts, jointly exploring cooperation opportunities in areas such as agricultural product processing, wool products, and mineral resource development.

Deepening Practical Cooperation – Jointly Promoting High-Quality Development of China-Lesotho Economic and Trade Relations

During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and promoting the implementation of specific cooperation projects. Director Huang Zhaojin stated that the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA has long been committed to building bridges for economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between China and other countries, and has previously established sound cooperative relations with the embassies of many African countries in China. The Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA will uphold the principle of "sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith" in its Africa policy, adopting a point-to-point one-stop service approach to effectively facilitate the implementation of China-Lesotho cooperation projects.

Ambassador Mile expressed that Lesotho is willing to strengthen communication and collaboration with the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA within the FOCAC framework, jointly promoting practical cooperation between the two countries in areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy. Ambassador Mile particularly noted that Lesotho is actively advancing its economic diversification strategy and looks forward to deepening cooperation with Chinese enterprises in areas such as green development of rare earth resources, modern agricultural technology cooperation, and renewable energy project investment. She extended a warm invitation for the Digital Economy Working Committee of CODA to organize a delegation of Chinese enterprises for an on-site visit to Lesotho, pledging full support from the Embassy in terms of visa processing, government liaison, and enterprise matchmaking meetings.

The meeting concluded in a cordial and productive atmosphere. Both sides agreed to establish a dedicated communication mechanism to maintain close contact on matters such as participation in the 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations, the development of the business cooperation center, and the organization of enterprise delegation visits, jointly working to elevate the China-Lesotho strategic partnership to new heights.
